Ingredients

  • Hard cheese

Steps

  1. Prepare all components: make the mashed potatoes and sauté the meat filling according to the subrecipes below.
  2. Take portions of the warm mashed potatoes and form balls or mounds on a baking sheet; make a depression in the center of each to create a "nest".
  3. Fill each nest with the prepared meat filling.
  4. Sprinkle the surface of each nest with grated hard cheese.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven until the cheese melts and a golden crust forms.
  6. Remove from the oven and serve hot; if desired, let the nests rest for 2–3 minutes before serving.

Mashed potatoes

  • Potatoes
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  1. Wash and cut the potatoes into large pieces.
  2. Cook the potatoes in salted water until completely tender.
  3. Drain and mash the potatoes to a creamy consistency; season with salt and pepper to taste if needed.
  4. Cool the mash to a warm temperature so it's easier to form the nests.

Meat filling

  • Ground beef
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the ground beef and fry, breaking up any lumps, until the meat changes color and excess moisture has evaporated.
  3. Season the meat with salt and pepper to taste and heat for another minute or two to let the flavors meld.
  4. Remove the filling from the heat and let it cool slightly before forming the nests.
